Office of Refugee Resettlement

Rancho’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) program, also known as “Hope’s House” (or in Spanish, “Casa De Esperanza”), is licensed and funded for a total bed capacity of 32 male unaccompanied children (UC), ages 13-17, who enter the United States without immigration status and without a parent or legal guardian who can provide for their immediate physical and mental well-being.

The program goal is to provide a positive, nurturing setting and trauma-informed services designed to help expedite the safe and timely release process from ORR custody to parents, other family members, or other adults who can care for the child’s physical and mental well-being. Rancho is equipped to facilitate admission and discharges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Hope’s House includes temporary housing and supportive case management for unaccompanied children. Services include residential care, education, health care, socialization/recreation, vocational training, mental health services, access to legal services, and intensive case management.

Hope’s House creates a warm home-like environment that is welcoming and comfortable. There are games, books, puzzles, movies, and a video game system throughout the living space. The walls are decorated with culturally diverse and child-friendly decor.

Each bedroom includes a closet and pull-out desk. The on-site classrooms are also set up to be culturally sensitive, educational, fun and engaging. Staff support a sense of community and positively engage to help with the transition and adjustment to a new country and return to a family setting.
